The Perfect Beer Pairings

Beers

It’s Labor Day weekend and we know you’ll want to spend it enjoying the extra time off with a good meal and a refreshing drink. A favorite of many in the summer is a cold beer. This is why we recruited one of our knowledgeable managers, Jeff Lavine, to share with us the best beers to pair with what dishes per location. Check what he recommends out!

Stanford Grill – Rockville & Stanford Kitchen in Owings Mills

Feed the Monkey German-style Hefeweizen – Jailbreak Brewing Company – Laurel, MD

DSCF6968

A German-style hefeweizen that combines traditional notes of clove and banana with subtle citrus aromas and flavors provides balance and complexity. This hefeweizen is a perfect pair to our Coconut Rainbow Roll at our Standford Grill in Rockville, MD. The combination of tropical flavors of banana, coconut, and clove go are the perfect start of any meal.

If you happen to be in the area of our newest restaurant, Stanford Kitchen, located in Owings Mills, MD you MUST pair this draft with our Maryland Style Blue Crab salad.  Fresh ruby red grapefruit, sweet blue crab, and avocado will make the subtle citrus flavors of this German-style hefeweizen pop.  And for those of you looking for a vegetarian option, the chopped vegetable salad at Stanford Kitchen takes this pairing to a whole new level. Creamy avocado, sweet corn, roasted beets, asparagus and roasted cashews round out a powerhouse of flavor combinations that will leave you truly satisfied.

Copper Canyon Grill – Silver Springs

Big Punisher Double IPA – Jailbreak Brewing Company – Laurel, MD

DSCF7082

This rewardingly “Punishing” Double IPA is a local go-to beer full of tropical fruit aromas and a wonderful copper orange color.  This craft beer pairs perfectly with our signature slow-roasted St. Louis Ribs. The light spice and sweet tanginess of the Texas style BBQ sauce are truly complemented by the malty, sweet caramel tasting Double IPA with tropical fruit aromas.

Copper Canyon Grill – Glenarden

Wye Rye – Calvert Brewing Company – Upper Marlboro, MD

DSCF7051

We’re pairing the centerpiece of the table, our slow-roasted Rotisserie Chicken with the ever elegant and oh-so-drinkable Wye Rye. Roasted meats always seem to pair well with this smooth, malty beer, and we especially like this pairing because our rotisserie chicken is so unpretentious and simple. We wouldn’t want a beer to overpower its subtle goodness. Plus, with it’s peppery Rye finish, this beer is perfect for elevating the simple mix of spices that make our rotisserie chicken so wonderful.

Copper Canyon Grill – Orlando

Night Swim Porter – Coppertail Brewing Company – Tampa, FL

DSCF6637

This beer was made to pair with rich smoked foods which makes it a perfect combination for our Veggie Burger.  This rich blend of vegetables and brown rice soaks up all the flavor of our wood-burning grill.  You will first notice the sweet chocolate and roasted malt aromas of this porter. The light hints of molasses from our veggie burger are a perfect complement to the rich blend of sweet and roasted flavors of this medium-full bodied porter.  The creamy and slightly spicy pepper jack cheese accentuates the sweet and roasted characteristics of the Night Swim Porter.

Who says beer can’t be enjoyed with dessert?!!!!

Stanford Grill – Colombia & Copper Canyon Grill – Gaithersburg

Allagash White – Allagash Brewing – Portland, ME

DSCF6929

This Belgian-style wheat beer is brewed with oats, malted wheat, and unmalted raw wheat for a hazy appearance. Then, it is spiced with a special blend of coriander and Curaçao orange peel. White upholds the Belgian tradition of beers that are both complex and refreshing.  This flavor profile pairs perfectly with our house made Key Lime Pie.  The sweet, creamy tartness is surprisingly satisfying with the toasted malt, coriander and Curaçao orange zest notes of the Allagash White.  A perfect pairing for an al fresco dining experience on either restaurant’s patio.

Don’t wait one second to try these amazing beer pairings and make a reservation today at your favorite restaurant. Book a table for Copper Canyon Grill here, Stanford Grill here, and our newest addition, Stanford Kitchen here.

As you may know, not all whiskeys are created equal. We got Rye Whiskeys, Bourbons, Scotch Whiskeys, etc. Among our list of whiskeys to choose from, we have Crown Royal, Bulleit Rye, Jameson, Jack Daniel’s, and others. In the Borbon department, great to enjoy by itself or in our Uptown Old Fashioned, we have Maker’s Mark, Knob Creek, Woodford Reserve, Makers 46, and more. Prefer a Scotch, instead? Order a Johnnie Walker Black or Johnnie Walker Blue, Macallan, Glenlivet, Chivas Regal, or Lagavulin.

Step into the pre-prohibition era with a New York Sour made with bourbon and Merlot. Another good bourbon cocktail? Our Boulevardier! Made with Campari and Sweet Vermouth. Want a Scotch cocktail? We have the Penicillin, a refreshing cocktail concocted with muddled ginger and fresh lemon juice.

Best Pinot Noir Pairings

DSCF6839

This week we are talking and celebrating everything Pinot Noir as tomorrow is Pinot Noir Day. If you are a fan of this variety of wine, keep reading for the perfect selection and food pairing. These were suggested by some of our best Managers and Executive Chefs, so we are positive these selections will please and enhance your experience when visiting any of our restaurants.

The La Crema Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast would be a good wine selection as we offer it by the glass as well as by the bottle.

DSCF6823

This is a cool climate vineyard with a craggy coastline, grassy pastures, and Redwood forests.  This cool climate and structured topography mean the grapes spend more time on the vine allowing a deeper, more dramatic spectrum of flavors and aromas to develop.

Pinot Noirs are a light red wine with mild tannic qualities.  This makes it ideal to pair with a wide variety of foods. With this particular wine, you can expect dark sweet fruits on the nose such as red cherry, plum, and pomegranate with a hint of sweet tobacco. On the palate, you will get multiple layers of blue and blackberry fruit, plums, and cherries followed by a subtle hint of blood orange, exotic spice, and toast with a long finish.

Meat Pairings

DSCF6738

For a meat pairing with La Crema Pinot Noir, choose the Danish Ribs or our burger. In our opinion, it is best enjoyed with our burger believe it or not.  The burger is quite rich and we would not want anything to overwhelm or take over the richness of the burger, brioche bun, and accoutrements.  Instead, the La Crema Pinot Noir helps subtlety cut through this richness and enhance the flavors of our custom blend of ground beef used for our burgers.

You can also try the Meiomi Belle Glos Pinot Noir with our Filet. Though steaks are often paired with fuller-bodied, high tannin wines, this Pinot Noir from California has great jammy flavors that pair well with the smokiness of our hardwood grill, while the aged gorgonzola and Chilean red wine sauce have a richness that is complemented by the complexity of the wine.

Seafood Pairings

IMG_2884

For the seafood, we would most certainly suggest our Shrimp and Andouille pasta with La Crema Pinot Noir.  This pasta has a parmesan cream sauce as the base that is accentuated with blackening spices and citrus.  The sweet, slightly acid nature of this wine not only cuts through the richness of the parmesan cream sauce but it helps enhance the spice of the Cajun seasoning and andouille sausage.  Truly unique pairing that will leave you surprisingly satisfied.

You could also go for the Adelsheim Pinot Noir paired with our Short Smoked Atlantic Salmon. Adelsheim Pinot Noir from Oregon brings bright fruit notes of raspberry, strawberries, and cedar. The bright fruit notes contrast well with the rich flavors of our salmon, and the cedar notes highlight its smokiness.

Vegetarian Pairings

DSCF6894

Our signature vegetable plate is a hands down favorite for the La Crema Pinot Noir.  The assorted flavors and varying cooking techniques of the six different vegetables combine for a truly enjoyable experience. We are especially fond of the oak roasted zucchini and squash in this pairing with the vine-ripened tomatoes and blue cheese following as a very close second.

The One Hope Pinot Noir with Mushroom Ravioli is another great choice. This Napa Valley Pinot Noir brings bright red fruits. Mushroom ravioli is a good match as the delicate mushrooms pair well with the mild flavor, and the cream sauce is light enough to bring forward the fruit flavors without either being overwhelmed.

Dessert

DSCF6670

The La Crema Pinot Noir cannot be underestimated and considered not suitable for dessert.  It pairs wonderfully with the Chocolate Uprising… cinnamon brownie, vanilla ice cream and roasted walnut fudge. Making it the perfect pairing for this wine.

Now that you know the best pairings to enjoy with a glass of Pinot Noir, make a reservation at any of our restaurants to try it for yourself. Learn more and book your table over at Copper Canyon Grill here, Stanford Grill here, and Stanford Kitchen here. Cheers!
